Tescos opening - latest?
Submitted by admin on 16 July 2008 - 11:08amFrom Nicholas Coombes:
"Staff shortage has ... delayed the writing of the report needed so that a decision can be taken on the loading bay. It was mostly written this morning [3 July] and should be going for a cabinet decision in two weeks time. This means that the loading bay could be painted, and Tesco opening, mid-August at the earliest."

Traffic survey results - canal bridge crossing?
Submitted by admin on 16 July 2008 - 11:05amFrom Nicholas Coombes site, following the 12 hour traffic survey by BANES:
"...There is now clear evidence of a need for a zebra crossing from the survey figures."
"...even during the holidays and before Tesco opens, Bathwick Hill is already busy enough to warrant a zebra crossing. The threshold figure for traffic volume is exceeded during both morning and evening rush hours and pedestrian flow is steady throughout the day, with an unexpected peak around 10am."

Canal bridge traffic island - damaged AGAIN in 1 week
Submitted by admin on 25 April 2008 - 12:01pmi'm not sure of the exact date that the works were completed on the canal bridge (by Tescos) but it can't be more than 10 days ago. Since then the traffic island has been damaged twice by buses or cars.
this raises a few issues:
1. safety. the whole point of these works was surely to increase safety for pedestrians crossing at the bridge, presumable by reducing traffic speed thanks to a narrower road. but it would already seem to be clear that safety is being seriously REDUCED as this island is now a major obstacle for vehicles, with a tiny margin of error for larger vehicles. if someone is on this island when a vehicle collides with the kerb stones or signage i dread to think of the consequences.
2. who is responsible for 'designing' the road changes? surely they made some major errors when planning the new island and widths of the road, bearing in mind the bendy buses? one side of the island seems to give the bendy buses a margin of error of about 3 inches! add to this future tescos delivery lorries parking below the bridge and will this not get even worse?

Bath Rugby put forward their 'prospectus' for the Rec's future
Submitted by admin on 11 December 2006 - 2:37pm
It's not a planning application yet, but simply some plans for debate, put forward by Bath Rugby.
In the plans, the Bath Rugby footprint will be increased by 5%, taking Bath Rugby's overall usage of The Rec from 28 per cent to 29.5%. They also do not foresee the requirement for BANES to provide cash for the £16m development.
