Ken Smith of Bathwick Stores died on 1 September. He was an important and irreplaceable part of the Bathwick Hill community, running Bathwick Stores for more than 20 years. He had fought the Tesco opening and had carried on business in the face of that heavy competition, but in April this year was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, forcing his retirement. Ken was able to make a trip to family in Thailand in the summer, but his condition deteriorated rapidly through August and he died peacefully on Bathwick Hill.

Ken's funeral will take place on Wednesday, September 16 from 12.30pm at Bathwick St Mary's Church in Darlington Street. Anyone who knew Ken is welcome to attend the service.
