diminishing, and the Church Authorities have yet to announce a final

MyrtlemeeA recent very welcome addition to the row of shops at Georges Place on Bathwick Hill is Myrtlemee, a truly inspirational flower shop owned by Emma Rees-Oliviere. A trained nurse, she worked at the Mineral Hospital in Bath for nearly 20 years before deciding to take up professionally her lifelong passion in flower arranging with a particular interest in growing and drying flowers. She enrolled on a floristry course and, with the encouragement of her husband Jon, who brought vast retail experience, the shop was opened.

Cornwall LodgeCornwall Lodge, No 5 Bathwick Hill, is assumed to have been designed by John Pinch and built in 1825, along with most of its neighbours. The front porch and adjacent extension are later alterations and the attic roof was raised in 1897. It is also expected that originally it would have been screened from the road by a high front wall, as is the case with most of the Regency Villas on the Hill, but this wall was partly replaced by iron railings which, in their turn were carted off during the second world war. The original glazing bars had also disappeared throughout the house , victim presumably of the Victorian fashion for large panes of unobstructed plate glass. The present owners have repaired the front wall and restored both railings and glazing bars, continuing a process which has been gradually pursued by many other householders on the hill. |
