The loss of leisure learning - axing adult classes
The news that the University is cutting its Lifelong Learning programme means even fewer opportunities for older people to enjoy activities in retirement. Already the Learning and Skills Council had ceased to fund the sort of classes that we had enjoyed, both at the College and in the B&NES Council's programme of Community Education.
Belatedly, the Government seems to have realised this is something of an 'own goal' as it leads to loss of social contact, stimulus, etc, and is planning a new approach. Would you like to have your say in a survey by Help the Aged to shape their response to Government? There's a short questionnaire on the subject (7 questions) which you can send in freepost - if you would like a copy please contact me on 462397 .
Closing date is 15th April.
If you'd like to share your views with others on the Hill, we could discuss the topic on this site - and there's a B&NES Older Learners' Forum that would welcome your input too.
